Aidan

Jamestown adventure + a note about 52

January 4, 2015 by Cady Sinks Leave a Comment

DSC_2081Christmas this year was all about family.  Probably in the way it should be but sometimes isn’t.  And maybe this year that was easy for us because of days off from work and Aidan’s lack of understanding about consumerism and Toys R Us.  I loved watching Aidan play with his cousins even if I had to tell him 1,423 times not to hit anyone or even threaten to hit anyone (this is a just a phase, right?).  I loved seeing him take long walks with my parents.  And possibly best of all, I loved watching his face in complete wonder as he listened to two hootie owls call out to one another.  He’s still on the look out for those two owls.

One exciting aspect of our holiday was heading to Jamestown with my parents.  We absolutely love taking Aidan on these adventures.  His desire to run and play fit in perfectly here.  He was able to explore and we didn’t have to worry much about something being destroyed since a majority of the exhibit is outside.  Of course, he tried his best to go overboard twice.  Maybe the next time we go, we’ll take life preservers with us.

I have set a number of goals for myself for 2015.  Let’s get real for a moment, I set a lot of goals for myself so this isn’t something new.  What is a bit new is that I’m telling the internet about my goals.  Maybe this will keep me honest.  One of my goals is a 52 week photography project where I share at least one photo per week here.  I take a lot of photos and over the last 12 months, I’ve loved seeing how much my skill set has grown.  But I fail to post them here or even on Facebook because it is so easy for me to neglect that step.  Between a full time job, two hours of commuting every day, family obligations, my passion for knitting plus my running and triathlon training (which I admit is not happening right now but will get back on my schedule!) taking the time to share my work is skipped over like a weird side dish at dinner.  Or does that just happen at my house when my mom gets creative?  Well, I think you get it.

That’s a long winded way of me saying – I have a goal to post at least one photo a week here.  Someone hold me to it or I’ll have to eat that side dish.

Aidan & Nana

My mom is something special. Trying to describe her is like trying to hold onto water with only your hands. There are too many aspects that I miss in the process. I usually try to describe her laugh first. Oh that laugh. It is so unique and funny and carefree. It’s the kind of laugh that other people, without knowing her, listen to and just crack up over. It’s infectious in a way that even Kevin Hart can’t produce (and trust me on that because I love him too).

Over the last week my mom has been here to help after Alan’s surgery. I love having my parents come to visit because it is so cool to see them bond with Aidan. And this kid. Man does he love his nanna.

Thank you mom – for keeping my kid safe and fed, my husband mostly intact, and for staying up late to listen to my silly stories and big dreams.

Aidan & the baby pool

DSC_8256_w logoI love to swim.  And I seriously love that Aidan enjoys the water.  Whether he is jumping into the water, splashing in it, or doing his absolute best to completely drain the pool of water, he loves it.  Our neighbors were sweet enough to have us over for some backyard baby pool + sprinkler fun.  This afforded me the opportunity to get some cute photos of Aidan at play in/around the water.

I know I’m biased but man, he is so cute in that swim suit.DSC_8267_w logoDSC_8297_w logo

Aidan & the trolley

His love of wheels had elevated to a new level.  Enter: the trolley.

Every day we see trucks, cars, vans, golf carts and the trolley.  Oh man does he love the trolley.  When we finally had a chance to check out the trolley up close, Aidan’s day was made.  We climbed on and off and on again.  Aidan sat in half of the 14 seats and I nearly let him climb onto the driver’s seat.  Judgmental stares from my husband were the only reason I held back (for now).

Highchair Diaries

 My child likes to eat.

Right now Aidan will crush ham, cheese, yogurt, cereal, any fruit, most veggies, definitely milk and he has developed a serious affection for dipping.  Yesterday I gave him one chip and he ate half a container of french onion dip with said chip.  (That’s a slight exaggeration but the double dipping was in fact happening.  Multiple times over.)

He also likes to feed the puppy.  We know when Aidan’s done eating because he will start dropping – and then flinging – his food off his plate and onto the floor proclaiming “puppy!” as if we hadn’t already fed the dog and it had become his duty to do so.  Generally not a problem until we have rice for dinner.  Rice is a mess that is actually hard to clean up and Mackenzie, while a lover of all foods tossed her way, isn’t entirely motivated by grain.

I know I shouldn’t encourage Aidan to play with his food but the other morning he was having fun with the yogurt container, he was confined by the highchair, and my camera was near by.  Trifecta.  DSC_6933_w logo DSC_6934_w logo DSC_6949 w logo
